Canada West Gives $300,000
Mar 20, 2009
In an unprecedented decision, the Canada West Equipment Dealers Association
recently approved a $300,000 contribution to Assiniboine Community College
(ACC).
The contribution enhances and expands upon an existing partnership with ACC
and is the largest contribution ever given by Canada West to a college in
Canada. The partnership is designed to address the number one issue within
dealerships which is the shortage of properly trained technicians.
“ACC has been recognized across Canada as a leading provider of training and
their commitment to the equipment dealer industry cannot be overstated,”
said Gail Halderman, Canada West Equipment Dealers Association President.
“We’re excited to partner with ACC in the Len Evans Centre of Trades &
Technology and to work with the college in recruiting and training more
technicians for our dealerships.”
For the past number of years Canada West’s Board of Directors have
identified the training needs of members and skill shortages as a priority.
With that in mind, Canada West created the Canada Equipment Dealers
Foundation (CEDF); which is the fundraising arm of the association. Through
the CEDF, Canada West provides scholarships to current and prospective
employees, offers industry specific training to members and works with post
secondary educational institutions on joint initiatives.
Campaign Assiniboine Building on Demand Chair Bob Mazer graciously accepted
the donation. “We are delighted to be working with Canada West,” said Mazer.
“We’re pleased to be recognized by dealerships across Western Canada and we
look forward to working together to meet industry’s demand for well trained
ag technicians.”
Assiniboine Community College’s Agricultural Equipment Technician
Apprenticeship, John Deere TECH and Heavy Duty Equipment Technician programs
and the new ag shop at the Len Evans Centre of Trades & Technology will
benefit from this partnership.
